During its regular meeting on August 4th, the Board of County Commissioners placed a prohibition on all open fires in the unincorporated areas of Delta County with the exception of lands within the Gunnison, Grand Mesa and Uncompahgre National Forest, BLM lands and Colorado State Parks. This “fire ban” is effective immediately and will be in place until further order by the Commissioners. This “open fire ban” was at the recommendation of the County Sheriff in response to concerns from local fire chiefs as to the current dry conditions at the lower elevations. Individuals needing to burn for agricultural purposes or some other purpose may apply for a permit to burn as an exception to the restrictions by filing an application with the Sheriff’s Department. The application form is also available online (select 'Document Center' in the upper right-hand corner of the web page, then select the 'Sheriff' category).
