The Delta County Environmental Health Division, in cooperation with the Mesa County Health Department, issues “No-Burn Advisories” during the winter heating season. During periods of winter air inversion and stagnation, air quality rapidly deteriorates in the North Fork and Uncompahgre Valleys. The “Learn When to Burn Program” advises the public to participate in improving air quality during these times.
Daily air quality advisories are posted in cooperation with the Mesa County Health Department from November 1st to April 1st each year. Participation is voluntary at this time. Exemptions from wood burning advisories include homes using wood burning as their sole source of heat, residences above 7200 feet, homes with EPA certified wood burning units, and pellet stoves or gas burning appliances.
